No, sadly, no big news today. Our homestudy update is complete and we have sent off the supplement 3 to the US government to make sure all of our approvals and documentation is correct when we travel. We do have a special request for those that are interested in participating. To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is a tradition in the northern part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei, or 100 Good Wishes Quilt. It is a custom to invite friends and family to contribute a patch of cloth with a wish for the baby. Most of the square is sewn into the quilt, while a smaller piece goes into a creative memory notebook with the wish for the child. The quilt contains the luck, energy, and good wishes from all the families and friends who contributed a square of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation.
We would love very much for our family and friends to be a part of this tradition with us. Please contribute to the Bai Jia Bei.
Please send:
(1) One 5"x5" square of washable fabric that could work for a little girl. It can be new or "used and meaningful" fabric. Please pre-wash the fabric to prevent any shrinking when it becomes part of the Bai Jia Bei.
(2) A 4 X 6 card with a wish dedicated to our child. Please include a scrap of your fabric glued to the card. Your wish can be simple or elaborate, handwritten or typed. It can be something original you wrote, or a favorite poem, lyric, quote or special scripture that has meaning to you. Remember to sign the wish and include your city and state. This can be simple or elaborate. It can have photoes or stickers, whatever seems fun to you.
Please note that the finished size of the squares in the quilt will be 4X4, so if you are adding embroidery to your square, please keep that in mind.
We are asking that if you decide to send a square and wish, that you send it soon as possible so we will be able to get started making the quilt.
We appreciate it very much! Thank you!
